Efficient, aggressive looking, light as a feather, and super futuristic. Those are just some of the characteristics of the new Canoo pickup truck. Normally, when you hear ‘electric car’, your mind would go immediately to a fancy city car that just makes a few miles on the road. Canoo, instead, is here to break stereotypes with a tough-looking pickup truck that’s ready to take on the unpredictable off-road.
They claim that their light-duty beast is just as powerful as its fuel-driven competitors while being way more eco-friendly. One thing is sure: we’ve never seen such a futuristic looking pickup before.
The build
This brand new EV pickup truck is built on Canoo’s platform of 184 inch length and 112.2 inch wheelbase, meeting just about the midsize truck standards. To get the power, it only needs a single rear or dual-motor setup that produces 600 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. The big question though, is how far can it go? The answer is approximately 200 miles.
The design
After a first look, you might be wondering: how can the front be so flat? That’s all thanks to the fact that this pickup doesn’t need bits and bobs like power units or shock towers which are essential to trucks running on diesel or gas, as it only needs electricity to go ahead. Without the engine in the way, this electric beast can slim down and be more efficient.
Inside, you get two seats - with the passenger compartment all the way forward to give you maximum visibility and all the space you need to get comfortable on longer drives.
The rear can also welcome an extra two seats or be used to carry anything you need to bring with you.
Functionality and style
Of course, it wouldn’t be a pickup truck without a bed, and Canoo’s one is a 6-foot bed that can extend to 8 feet. Its cargo area goes showing that this truck ain’t just a pretty face, offering a fold-down work, side tables, storage compartments, and even allows you the option to add a roof rack.
If you need to spend a lot of time in the outdoors, you’ll be happy to know that this pickup can accommodate a variety of camper shells. The 18-inch big wheels are supported by the rig thanks to the added large fender spats.
Canoo’s signature headlights and taillights couldn’t be missing, in addition to some advanced lighting technology, bed lighting, and bumper Foglamps so that you can stay safe out there without issues.
