Elizabeth Mann, a Yorkshire Volunteer Fire Department, is one of those heroes who wanted to share her story. She grew up immersed in the fire service as both her father and grandfather had been working in the fire service for more than 30 years. They were the ones to inspire her to get started in this field of work but initially, she resisted her love for this career and postponed joining for a few years. Nevertheless, already from a young age, she was out there on fire calls with her dad, who at the time was Chief of the Fire Department.
Over the years, she continued to follow her dad as he responded to numerous fire calls around the city. She occupied her time at a local community college but nothing excited her more than responding to those calls and after some indecision, she finally made the jump to join the fire department. Six years later, she has followed the same path as her grandfather and has been a third-generation EMT for 5 and a half years now.
“ I am so happy that I chose this path for my life. I love volunteering for my community day in and day out. I hope my grandpa is looking down on me and is proud that I’m following the family tradition. ” says Elizabeth, who has now become the President of her department.
